What is uTorrent
uTorrent is a very powerful BitTorrent client for Microsoft Windows. It is extremely simple to use for everyone and and it has all the functionalities and options that other well known BitTorrent clients have. uTorrent offers you a great stability and uses extremely low resources when using your computer ( many other torrent clients will eat up your system resources in case you tested some of them ). uTorrent uses ( features that are present at many other well known BitTorrent clients ) well known technologies like DNA (also known as Delivery Network Accelerator), distributed hash tables, protocol encryption, tracker, super seeding, peer exchange, broadcatching, client, RSS auto downloading, DHT, bandwidth prioritization and many other features that are being added with new releases of uTorrent. Also this client is fully compatible with Windows Vista and with the latest version of uTorrent, the rare crash bug with malformed UPnP response and downloads stalled in rare cases was completely fixed.
Editor reviews for uTorrent
uTorrent is my favourite bittorrent client and that's for many reasons. Let's suppose that you are tired. You searched for a lot of BitTorrent clients and all of them are using a lot of system resources, it keeps blocking and crashes your system oftenly. You have to try uTorrent, I believe that this is the easieast, light and fast downloading BitTorrent client that I ever used. I mean, it is very small in size it has approx. max 250 K, you can download it and load it on your USB key. The installation process is also extremely simple, I mean I don't think that someone isn't be able to install it, unless he can't read. After being installed the most surprising fact is the memory use, it uses approximately 6 MB of memory so this program works even on old computers. Sure, this BitTorrent software is excellent and it may be a strong candidate in fight for the best rated BitTorrent client but you need to know or search your torrents if you want to download some rare files. For example you can't buy ( in this case win ) a car and after this to keep it in front of your house and admire her since you can't afford to buy some gas. You need to search for torrents files, it's true that uTorrent has a torrent search bar that links to MiniNova ( and a handy RSS feed download function ) but you cannot rely only on this if you want to download a lot of rare files. Luckily you can search on your favourite search engine for a lot of torrents search engines that will reveal millions of torrents to choose from, for example do this query on your favourite search engine "search torrents" and you will need some time to search on all torrents search enginges. As a conclusion, in my opinion, uTorrent is the best rated BiTorrent client for Windows.
uTorrent additional notes
There are no technical issues related to uTorrent, version 1.8.1. You must be very careful when using any BiTorrent clients not just uTorrent. First, you must share only legal stuffs. You cannot share copyrighted files, programs since this may bring you troubles in the future. Make sure that it is legal if you are uploading a file from your computer to the entire world. Another advise would be to make sure that you have a good antivirus software installed on your computer. This would include also a good anti-spyware program. This is a must, you cannot download all kind of files from the Internet and expect to have your computer clean and free of viruses and spywares. Not all the people that access the Internet has good intentions and purposes, some of them intentionally modifies programs, files or infest them with Trojans, viruses and so on. So, go for uTorrent software but make sure that your computer is being protected.

Most of the uTorrent users leave the default settings of uTorrent as they are. For example I am using the bandwidth allocation on normal level for all of my torrents and I don't set any download or upload speed limits for my torrents. I also choose on which torrents I decide to keep them on seed and which I prefer to delete from seeding. Those are the uTorrent settings available for most of normal users but you can learn to customize your own settings after a short period of time.
Are there any seed or leech rules regarding uTorrent ?
uTorrent is a client that allows you to download and upload torrent files. Those rules depends from tracker to tracker, from website to another website. Some websites that lists torrents ban users that are downloading torrents and then run, this is a called technique named "hit and run". As I said each tracker has his own rules. However if you are looking for a torrent netiquete ( a form of a polite comportament regarding torrents ) you can do this. If you are downloading a torrent, you can leave it on your computer at seed at least until he is being uploaded entirely by other users, so if you are downloading a 500 MB torrent file, it would be polite to let other users to upload it untill the upload of this torrent reaches 500 MB. If you're thinking that it would be the best to download torrents and then to delete them you should think that this is the main idea to share things with other people. If everyone would download and then choose to delete the torrents, it wouldn't exist such programs like uTorrent.
How do I know that a torrent file is legal or illegal ?
It's quite easy to make the difference between an illegal torrent and a legal one. Before downloading any torrent you should know that a movie or a song file like an .mp3 or .wma has an author and they have copyrights. If you know these things then you know that by downloading that movie or that song is illegal. If you choose to download a copyrighted movie/song you are doing an illegal thing. If you want to download a freeware program, a free pack of pictures or any other free and legal content then it's perfectly legal to do so.
How do I know that downloaded torrents are free of viruses or malware ?
You don't No one will guarantee you this. It's easy to infect your computer by downloading a torrent. There are bad people that intentionally infects clean and popular programs, files with viruses, adware, trojans in one word with malware. There are also viruses that infects people computers and the choose to spread over torrents networks. The solution would be a good antivirus with regular updates, a firewall and even a router if you can afford.
