How to install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and perform a scan of your PC

 

We are going to show you how to install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 1.34 on your computer. This should work for both Windows XP and Vista versions. We have installed this application on Windows XP SP 3 so it may look a little different on Vista but there are the same steps described here. So, let's get started, first of all you will need to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malwarem you can always obtain latest version from here. After downloading the softwware it's now time to start the installation. Open the file and you should see a similar window with this one :

Click on the "Run" button to start the installation of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and a new small window will appear, asking you to select your favourite language :

 

Select your language - the default language is english

 

Now you should see a "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Setup Wizard" window. To continue with the installation click on the "Next" button.

Now you should see a new window called "license Agreement". Make sure to read the terms listed in the "license Agreement" and if you agree with them, check the small box called "I accept the agreement" and click on "Next" button.

Another window called "Information" will show you the latest updates available for the current version. If you use your mouse scroll you can see all available updates. Click on the "Next" button to continue with the installation :

If you want to change the installation folder for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, you can do it in this window by using the "Browse" button and select a new location, otherwise leave it as it is and click on the "Next" button.

 

Choose where to install Malwarebytes. Select a different location or leave it as it is. It will install it by default in C: drive in Program Files folder

 

Now you are being asked for program shortcuts. I chosed to skip the creation of start menu folders, you can do it like in the following picture or you can leave it as it is. Press "Next" button to continue :

The following window called "Select Additional Tasks" asks you again for additional icons. You can choose to create an icon for your desktop and a quick launch icon. I chosed to create only an icon for my desktop but you can choose only a quick launch icon or even both of them. Again, press "Next" button to continue :

Finally, the last window and after this you should see the installation progress. This window is only a confirmation before starting to install. If you need to make a change, press "Back" button and it will allow you to modify the setup before installing the program. Now, press "Install" button and the installation will start. The installation should not take you more then a couple of seconds or minutes so please be patient.

 

If you are ready to install the program press "Next" button, if you need to change anything, press the "Back" button.

 

After the installation is complete you should see the "Finish" button. Click on it if you want to update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and to launch the program after the update is complete. Depending on your Internet connection speed, your computer performance and the size of the update, this should finish in a couple of seconds or minutes.

If the update was successful you should now see the program interface for the first time. This is how Malwarebytes Anti-Malware looks. I also suggest you to choose to "Perform quick scan" by selecting this option and click on the "Scan" button to start the scanning process :

We are going to leave it as it is - on the "Smart Scan". It will start to scan Windows for browser hijackers, tracking cookies, rootkits, executable files and the critical areas, Windows registry files, LSPs as well as the running applications. If you are ready to scan your computer click on the green button called "Scan Now" and the scanning process will start and when it will finish, it will show you what he detected. If your system is clean, nothing will be found, if it's infected it will show you what he has found written with a red color :

As you can see, after I scanned my system, he detected 3 infections. After pressing "OK" button it will show you the results. To remove the detected infections, make sure that infections are being selected and click on the "Remove selected" button.

Like any similar anti-spyware program, the most important thing is to make sure that you always keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware updated. Each time when you want to scan your system for malware, make sure to update it. To do this open the program interface and click on the third tab, the one called "Update". There you have a button called "Check for updates", make sure to press that button and the program will start to update his databases. Also you have the current database information displayed near that button that shows you the time when the application was updated last time.
