How to install BSPlayer

Years ago, BSPlayer was the most popular free multimedia player when people wanted to watch a movie on their computer. The developer of BSPlayer introduced and mantained for a short period of time adware in their software which affected ( in my opinion ) the image of the well known mediaplayer. People started to look for other free or paid players and after some time, BSPlayer released again a free and clean player. I was very happy to find out that there were no more adware included and this is why I want to show you how to install BSPlayer on a computer running Windows. This article is written for people that never use it before or they are using it after a long time ago and can't remember how to install it correctly.

Before starting the installation of BSPlayer, I would like to inform you that we are going to use BSPlayer free version 2.34 and that this version should work for almost all major Windows distributions, including Windows 2000, 2003 server, XP and Vista. I didn't tested it on Windows 7 since at the time that I have written this article, Windows 7 is a beta distribution and it's being tested. However, you can always download the latest version of BSPlayer or older versions here. If you downloaded your free copy of BSPlayer it's now time to open it and begin the installation :

Security Warning - Opening BSPlayer for the first time

Select "Run" and you will see a new window with the "license Agreement" - read the license terms and if you agree select "I Agree" to proceed with the installation.

BSPlayer Licence Agreement - Select "I Agree" if you agree with the terms of agreement

In the next window you are going to see the welcome message "Welcome to the BS.Player Free Setup Wizard" and you will need to click on the "Next" button to continue with the installation.

BSPlayer Free Setup Wizard

The next window is very important for your computer configuration, as you may notice I don't want to install BS.ControlBar, BS.Search home page or to allow BSPlayer to become the default search provider. If you want to leave this options as they, it's your choice as I am going to show you how to configure BSPlayer in my way.

Choose components for BSPlayer configuration

If you configured BSPlayer by deciding which components to install ( if you don't know what components to choose, just do it like in these pictures ) it's now time to click on the "Next" button and you will see a new window that will ask you where to install the program ( you can leave it as it is ) and you can change the path to the installation folder if you want to install BSPlayer on a different location.

Choose location to install BSPlayer

If you decided that you need another place to install BSPlayer, click on "Browse..." button and choose another location on your harddrive, otherwise leave it as it is and click on the "Next" button.

Select any additional install options

I am leaving those options as they are but you can modify them to suits your needs - after this click on "Next" to continue with the installation.

Select your language - the default language is English

Now you can select your favourite language, the default language is english, if that's ok with you, click on "Install" button to start the installation and you should see the message "Please wait while BS.Player FREE is being installed".

BSPlayer has started the installation

Now, many of us are going to see a message similar with the one from the next window. It may tell you that "BS.Player has detected that some required multimedia codecs are not installed on this computer, which may result in incorrect playback of multimedia files." and it will ask you if you want to install them : "Do you want BS.Player to download and install missing codecs?" and also will explain us if they will interfere with other codecs :"(BS.Player will install these codecs locally, meaning they will only be used by BS.Player and they will not interfere with any other currently installed program and/or codec)." You can allow BSPlayer to download those codecs as they should not interfere with any other installed codecs on your system. Select YES to allow the download of the codecs or NO if you already have your codecs and you're satisfied with them. I am repeating myself, if you don't know what to do, select YES.

BSPlayer asking if he should download some codecs that will be used to play multimedia files but only by this program to avoid any interfere with other codecs

For those who selected YES they should see a new window revealing the necessary / required codecs for download. Please click on the "Install Selected" button and wait for the codecs to be downloaded and then installed on your computer, please be patient as this could take from a couple of seconds to a few minutes depending on your computer performance and your Internet speed.

BS.Player codec manager - Listing the codecs available for download and installation

If everything went well, you should see the next window that will tell you that the installation/setup was successfully completed, click on the "Next" button to continue.

Installation completed

Again, the next window tells us that the installation has been completed and asks us if we want to run BSPlayer, click on the "Finish" button and the program interface will start.

Again, this window tells us that BS.Player has been installed and asks us if we want to launch the program

If you selected the "Finish" button you should see BSPlayer program interface for the first time, playing a song for the first time ( I hate this song, it really scared me ). It should look like in this picture :

BS.Player free version 2.34 started for the first time

Although, the purpose of this article was to show you how to install bsplayer on Windows, I am going to show you how easy is to play a movie in this multimedia player. When you installed BSPlayer he becamed the default multimedia player and if you will click on a multimedia file, it should open in BSPlayer. If this is not the case, you can do a right-click with your mouse on the file you want to open with BSPlayer and select - "Open With" - "BSPlayer". If BSPlayer is not there, you can do this : select "Open With" - select "Choose Program..." and locate where you installed it, the default location is "C:/Program Files/Webteh/Bsplayer". Or you can simply open BSPlayer and drag the movie into BSPlayer interface. The next window suggests you how a multimedia file, in this case a movie will be seen in this multimedia player.
