It is very hard nowadays to find a single and simple solution when you need to play a video format. I mean for example a couple of years ago, things was a little simpler, we didn't have so many multimedia file formats and a good video player was able to play almost anything. I am not saying that now we can't find same software with the same features I am just trying to say that the secret nowadays consists in a good multimedia player and the number of updates. For example if a multimedia player receives new versions at least 2-3 times/year it should be enough to be able to play almost any multimedia format. VLC Media Player offers a good solution for the file format problem. It can be used as a streaming server, it can be ported on a lot of platforms, the most populars like Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux are fully supported and is a freeware multimedia player which should be more than a good reason at least to try it and see what he can do. As a conclusion, VLC Media Player is one of the best multimedia players available not only for Windows but also for many other popular OS and for his ability to open most popular multimedia file formats you throw at it.

Other notes :

From experience we observed that when we combine a lot of codecs pack and many multimedia players for some of them, playing a video file becomes impossible. There are many incompatibilities but I think that there is no need to install a lot of them, use only your favourite version or use only VLC Media Player. It is very good since it uses a minimum of RAM installed and it can play even on older computers. Although the interface is a little older it very functional and should not influence your decision for keeping or not this multimedia player. You should also be prepared when you are downloading video files from the Internet and play them with VLC Media Player that you should have an antivirus installed along with an anti-spyware software. There are many infected multimedia files that spreads viruses, Trojans, worms or any other form of adware. So, keep your computer protected and enjoy playing all kinds of multimedia formats with VLC Media Player.
