Software review :
RealPlayer 11 ( also known as RealOne Player ) is a cross platform media player developed by RealNetworks. This is another major audio/video player distribution that supports a large number of multimedia formats like Macromedia Flash ( .swf ), MPEG files ( .mx3, mp3, .mpa, .mpeg, .mp2, .mpv ), MP3 Playlist files ( .pls, .m3u, .xpl ), Audio File ( .au ), WAVE ( .wav), RealOne Music ( .mnd ), GIF File Format ( .gif ), QuickTime Files ( .aiff, .avi ), Portable Network Graphics image files ( .png ), Active Stream Format ( .asf ) and a lot of other popular multimedia formats. With RealPlayer 11 you can download a lot of videos from almost all multimedia websites and build with them your own video playlists. After that you can even burn your video collection on a DVD or CD using RealPlayer. This version is of RealPlayer is recommended to US users only.
Editor's review :
Before I say something about this media player software I've better give some short history notes. So, RealPlayer is an old media player version, better said a mature multimedia software, the first RealPlayer version was introduced in April 1995 as RealAudio Player and it was capable at that time of " streaming media over the Internet". After this launch, coming with version 6, RealPlayer was called RealPlayer G2 and after this the version 9 called RealOne Player. There were two forms of version - FREE and PLUS. For the PLUS version you need to pay a small fee ( 40 $ approx. value ) and the main difference between them is that the PLUS version can rip, mix and burn CDs and MP3s fast, transfer vinyl, tapes and voice input into digital files, transfer Web videos to your iPod and burn Web videos to DVD while free version is able to do the basic functions like downloading videos from thousands of Web sites with just one click, build video playlists and to play all major audio and video formats. "RealPlayer Plus supports video transfer to video-capable iPod Nano and iPod Classic devices". I guess that RealPlayer PLUS should be purchased if you are satisfied with RealPlayer FREE. It would be unfair if I would say that RealPlayer is not a good program. It has more than 50 millions of downloads and I think that many people consider and rely on it as a fine software. Also, there are versions for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Mobile Devices and for Linux & Unix available for download on the publisher website. The latest version has a major face lift and a lot of new updates available.
Other notes :
There are many users on the Internet that rely on this multimedia player and with this new version it seems to run smoother than ever. However, we have noticed a lot of up sad people when they use this media player. The reasons would be the fact that it consumes a lot of resources, crashes still occur, high resource usage and so on. Probably the most annoying fact at this player would be this one: "This version of the RealPlayer is recommended for US users only" which means that the rest of the world can't use it. Any technical issues are being different from computer to computer based on the CPU, Mainboard ( internal computer hardware ) pieces so we do not agree that it isn't stable for this reason. Also you need proper driver installed, for example if you are installing many video drivers and many multimedia players there is a big chance for system instability.
