What is Pod to Mac

 

Pod to Mac was a free software ( now it's shareware ) that allowed you to copy your files from an iPod to your Mac and into iTunes. You can transfer all kind of files, like your music and videos. The iTunes interface, transfer progress bar, audio and video preview modes and a select all button have all been added. Playlists can now be easily transferred and track ratings and playcounts are retained too! It has also a search function allowing to instantly find the tracks, or album that you are looking for. The search function searches the Title, Artist, Album, Genre and File Type fields.

 

Pod to Mac review

 

Pod to Mac should be compared with version of the well-known Windows version called Pod to PC. Even if he doesn't have all the features available to Windows version we can say that is going to get almost all the features in a couple of months. Chris Devor ( creator of Pod to Mac ) mentioned some notes to the current version that we would like to post them here to :

 

- iPod needs to be in disk mode in order for it to be detected. Once the iPod is in disk mode, click the Load iPod button. More informations can be found here : how to put an iPod into disk mode tutorial.

- The select all feature and search capabilities are missing. A good short-cut to know is "[Apple Key] + A" to select all songs.


- Track previews, playlist transfers, and track ratings will be included in upcoming releases of Pod to Mac.


- Music needs to be imported into iTunes after transfer from the Transferred Tracks directory which is created on the users desktop.


- There is no transfer status bar. If you have lots of songs and need to check the status in real time, you can open the "Transfer Tracks" folder and watch as the tracks get copied

As we said there are a lot of features that are missing and that are going to be added but it worth to mention here that Pod to Mac now supports iPhone and iPod Touch and some versions of jailbreaked iPods and also automatic updates have been integrated into Pod to Mac.
