What is Pod Photo Transfer

It is a new software ( created by Chris Devor - the same person that created Pod to PC ) that allows you to copy your pictures and images from your iPod to your Windows computer. The first version was free but now this program became shareware which means that you have to pay a small fee in order to obtain your license. Coming with version 2.0 supports all iPods and iPhones. You will need iTunes 8.0 or higher for this application to work on your Windows PC. Starting with version 3.02 all Pod Photo Transfer versions will work with iTunes 9.0. If you're still using iTunes 8.0 and you need this version the download an old Pod Photo Transfer version which can be found under our menu.

Pod Photo Transfer review

If you need to transfer your pictures and images from your iPod to your PC and you also look for a free solution then Pod Photo Transfer is what you need. There isn't much to say about this program since this is the first version and it may contain some unknown bugs but at a first look it's very simple to use it. Program interface is intuitive enough to make the transfer operation simple for everyone. On the left side you can see the folders that contains images and if you click on a folder you can see the content of that folder. You can choose to save images separately or choose to save the entire folder or even the entire iPod. When you will start to save the images you can see a progress window that lets you cancel the transferring progress anytime. This software does his job very well, he is capable to transfer images and photos from an iPod to a Windows PC.

Pod Photo Transfer additional notes

Pod Photo Transfer will recover higher quality images than other iPod picture transfer programs. Using propreity algorithms, Pod Photo Transfer decodes the iPod's TV-output images. These images are encrypted on the iPod, but have a native resolution of up to 720x480 or 75% more pixels. Every picture on an iPod or iPhone is typically saved in 4 to 6 different formats. The standard format is 320x240. This is the output to the iPod's display. While this format is easy for programs to decode, it is much smaller than other image formats available on iPods.

What is the difference between Pod Photo Transfer and other programs ?

It's free this is the main reason, however if you look for a technical explanation, it would be the best resolution that a program can get. Here is a better explanation "iPods store Photos at about 4 resolutions, 720 x 480, 360 x 240, and then some smaller thumbnails. The reason that some other programs only export the 360 x 240 resolution images, is the image encoding on the higher 720x480 images is YUV 4:2:2, which needs to be decompressed pixel by pixel and it's going to get the best resolution possible that is stored on an iPod Photo or iPod Video, which is probably a lot better than the other programs out there." ( written by Chris Devor ).

Differences between version 1.0 and 2.0, from free to shareware ?

First version of Pod Photo Transfer was free and supported only some models of iPods and had more bugs. Starting with version 2.0 this software became shareware but now supports iPod Nano, iPod Photo, iPod Video, iPod Classic, iPod Touch and iPhone ( all generations ). After a couple of days this program has been made a free software again.

How many pictures can I transfer, is there a limit ?

Starting with version 2.1 with Pod Photo Transfer you can transfer an unlimited number of images/pictures from your iPod to your PC. You should be able to transfer them without any issues. This is available even if you're using an iPhone or an iTouch.
