Software review :

Paint.NET ( also known as Paint Net ) is a free, open source software. This editing software is developed on the NET Framework and it was initialy developed as a student project. Paint NET was supposed to be a simple software replacement for Microsoft Paint program that comes included in Microsoft Windows and it's being available in all Microsoft Windows versions but he becamed a powerful editor that supports plugins, layers, transparency and blending. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool. It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality. The source code is available under the terms of the MIT License. Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins.

Editor's review :

Paint.NET is an impressive example of how good software should look and it's definetely far more advanced than Microsoft Paint that comes by default in every Microsoft Windows distribution. Probably many people think that if they pay a big amount of money for a program they will definetely create everything that they have proposed to do. Things are not like this, from experience I learned that sometimes one free open source software can be more valuable and it can help us in achieving the expected results or even better than a shareware software that will cost you a lot of money and it will bring you some poor results. I think we should be better informed, there are many free alternatives to paid ones like in this case for example. Paint.NET brings the same power and almost the same functions that bigger and established players offers for a considerable amount of money. I am not saying that this software will satisfy you, no way, but if all you want to do is to install a graphical software that can do a quick image retouch, supports common images formats like the most popular ones - TIFF, PNG, JPEG, GIF and that can handle action managers and layers, Paint.NET is the free solution that you were looking for. This new version of Paint.NET improves graphics, incorporates a convenient thumbnail manager for handling multiple image editing, fixes old quibbles and improves overall performance. Download Paint.NET ( it has a small size ), install it and see yourself what this magnific piece of software can do for you. You have nothing to lose, it's completely free to use.

Other notes :

No technical issues with Paint.NET. It is based on Microsoft Windows Paint, the well known image editing program but it's more advanced. He is also very small in size and can be downloaded fast even by users that has a dial-up connection available. Since no major problems with this application were detected I would advise you to keep it that way. When you are working with pictures downloaded from the Internet using file managers or by simply browsing free picture websites, there is always a risk of infection. Some pictures are being affected and infected with new virus forms or adware. This is why you need to keep your antivirus updated. If you don't have one I Would strongly advise you to install one and also it would be a good ideea if you would install a good anti-spwyare software. There are many free antiviruses and free anti-spyware programs that are doing a very good job, exactly like Paint.NET is doing his job in the field of images editing for free.
