Editor's review :
Kaspersky Anti-Virus is right now, in the moment that I am writing this article installed on my computer. I must say that I used many antiviruses before. I do not want to mention them here since I don't want to be accused for negative advertisement or anything else. If you reached this page then probably you want to download Kaspersky Anti-Virus, you've heard from a friend or you read on the Internet that this is one of the best rated antivirus for Windows nowadays. In my opinion, Kaspersky Anti-Virus it is definetely the best antivirus software, that I ever used. I know that some people states that they had other antiviruses installed on their PC's and they never got infected with a virus or something like that. You should know that a simple antivirus without any other protection won't be very effective. Though, I used a lot of other antiviruses and this one provide me and my computer the best level of protection. Download Kaspersky Anti-Virus, install it ( use the standard option ) and launch it. When launched for the first time you will need an Internet connection in order to update the antivirus. After the update process, reboot your computer and do a full scan of your computer. Make sure to backup your work before using any antivirus since if you have your computer infected you may lose some important files when the antivirus will scan your computer and detect an infected file it may delete it if he won't be able to disinfect it. After updating the antivirus and full scan of your system it is time to setup correctly your antivirus. This is very important for your protection. Let me tell you how Kaspersky Anti-Virus is configured on my computer. Open Kaspersky Anti-Virus and you will see at the bottom of the Kaspersky window an option called Settings ( near Help ). If you access Kaspersky Anti-Virus Settings a new window will be opening with a lot of other options ( it looks like an control panel ). Under Protection ( first option ) you have File Anti-Virus, Mail Anti-Virus, Web Anti-Virus and Proactive Defense. Make sure that Enable File Anti-Virus is checked and the Security level is set to Recommended. At the Action option ( right under Security level ) make sure that Prompt for Action is checked/enabled. Mail Anti-Virus and Web Anti-Virus should have the Security level on Recommended but make sure that under the level Action - Block access is being checked/enabled ( including Disinfect, Delete if disinfection fails ) and Connectivity option ( under the Action ) has the same checked/enabled functions - Scan POP3/SMTP/IMAP traffic / Enable Microsoft Office Outlook and the Bat! support. At the last option from Protection level make sure that Enable Proactive Defense is checked/enabled including Enable Application Activity Analyzer. Leave the other two - Application Integrity Control and Registry Guard unchecked. Next, use the same settings that we did at the Protection level for the Scan level - ( for example, leave the Security level to Recommended and make sure that Do not prompt for action - Disinfect, Delete if disinfection fails is being checked/enabled ). Inside the Scan option - at the Threats and exclusions - Malware categories - check/enable - Viruses, worms, Trojans, hack tools - the same for spyware, adware, dialers and Potentially dangerous software ( riskware ). Right under Threats and exclusions you have the Update option - make sure that this one is being setup at the Run Mode to - Automatically. And for a little extra protection I recommend to password protect your antivirus. You can do it at the Service option, make sure that you check/enable the - Enable password protection - use the Settings button and type your password. After all of these settings, use the Apply button, it will ask you for your entered password and the settings will be updated. Open again the antivirus settings to make sure that you correctly setup your antivirus. My antivirus settings has those options checked/enabled but in time you can create or discover your own settings.
Other notes :
Kaspersky Anti-Virus has no technical issues, I am using it since 2005 and I didn't notice any errors. I run Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 and I was testing him on Microsoft Windows Vista to. It runs great and if you experiencing technical errors, try to re-install your system and make sure that your computer / system is being compatible with this antivirus. Make sure that you install your antivirus ( not only Kaspersky Antivirus but any antivirus ) on a fresh installed Windows since if your computer was already infected, no antivirus on this earth could guarantee you for 100 % that it will manage to disinfect or completely clean-up your system without affecting your files or computer. Also, it is very good to have an firewall installed on your computer or to use the Windows antivirus. It would be better if you would have a router in front of your Internet connection since you would get an extra level of protection. It is also a very good ideea to use an anti-spyware, anti-adware program. There are many useful anti-spyware software that could give you an extra protection.
