This combination of codecs K-Lite Codec Pack Standard represents the codecs pack that I am using to play my movies. Even if I am using another media player like GOM Media Player, I wouldn't be able to watch all of my movies without this codec pack. I can't tell you enough how useful is this pack for all Windows users. I was able to install it on Windows XP and Vista and it worked excellent for me. I've tested before a lot of codecs, others that offered support for only one video format like .AVI or for more but I always hated to install a lot of codecs, knowing that in the end it will generate conflicts. Everything plays on my computer since the date that I discovered K-Lite Codec Pack. If somebody would come and tell me that he discovered the best codec pack for Windows I would say that I already have them. As a conclusion, I love them for these reasons : the standard size it's small around 6-7 MB, they are very easy to install - no need to be an expert, it allows me to use my favourite media player and finally it just plays all popular movie formats.

Well, since we have tested many players, our choice would be GOM Media Player and BSPlayer. Not to mention Media Player Classic but this ones is being automatically installed on your PC when you perform a default installation. Can I use it in combination with other codecs ?

From experience I can tell you that this is a bad idea. Unless you're an expert in codecs and media files I would recommend you to install only one version of the same codecs. For example, if you're using other pack that uses the same codecs or a part of them and wish to try this pack, I would recommend you to uninstall the one that you're using and install this pack. If you're not satisfied you can switch back and re-install you're favourite codec pack.

 

Are there any differences between this pack and others ?

Yes they are, I have never seen a collection of codecs like this one, being updated so fast. I think that they are updated at least once a month. This is a good reason and the other one is the installation and configuration process which is fast and simple. Practically anyone can install them, you don't have to do something manually everything being automated.

 

What versions of Windows are being supported ?

We have tested this pack on Windows 2000, XP and Vista. If the latest version is not going to work for you, you can download an older version of K-Lite Codec Pack from this page. If you're looking for a version to work on 98/Me/NT, you can download version 3.45. This is the last version known to work on Windows 98/ME/NT. Look up on the right menu side for "Download Old K-Lite Codec Pack Versions" and look for version 3.4.5.

 

How many times should I update this codec pack ?

Some people updates their codecs monthly, others are updating it once a year. For example I am updating my pack almost montly or at least once at 3-4 months.
