Software review :
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition can be described as the quality of an free antivirus. Probably the greatest feature is the free charge for this antivirus. It is free to use for the life of the product. Another great thing is the fast virus update database which also are available for the lifetime of this antivirus. Millions of users are using this antivirus and they trust this great software. AVG antivirus is free and it won't slow down a computer like other similar products and it is one of the few antivirus software that requires low system resources. So if we are going to describe this free antivirus software, we would specify three important aspects. The first one is the automatic update function which is present also at the major antivirus software developers, though, it's probably the only antivirus offering free antivirus updates for the lifetime. The second aspect would be the AVG Resident Shield, which defends your system by using real-time protection when you're opening files or running programs. The last important function would be the AVG Virus Vault, a great tool which allows you to handle in a safe way infected files on your computer.
Editor's review :
Searching for a powerful and free antivirus solution ? Look no more, we have found AVG AntiVirus Free Edition which is more than you could wish from an free antivirus. It has all the great functions that paid antiviruses has to offer like an engine that scans your entire system - hard drives, e-mail, running programs and a great function that acts like a shield preventing infections. When installing this application you will notice that it's using, by default, an auto-update function that will download new virus definitions daily. However, if you encounter a virus that creates serious problems for your system, AVG antivirus creates a rescue disk that will scan your computer in MS-DOS. While your system it's scanned, you won't notice slow performance of your computer since this software is designed to use low system resources. And as a final notice I wasn't impressed by his interface since it's a free product but I preffer a simple interface for navigation like this one instead of a beautiful one ( or paying alot of money for a good antivirus ) that won't do anything to protect my system.
Other notes :
As a general advice regarding antivirus software I would recommend to use only one antivirus installed on a system. One antivirus can be combined with an powerful privacy tool like Ad-Aware 2007, SpyBot Search & Destroy etc. However if you wish to personally test more antivirus applications we recommend you to test them one by one without mixing them. We saw people that used 2-3 antivirus but this method of protection could reduce the effectivenes of one or another good antivirus and will definetely eat up your system resources. So, don't do it unless you really know what you are doing. From personal experience I saw that many times using one good antivirus solution combined with a decent firewall and a good privacy tool can bring you excellent results and keep your computer very safe. Remember another and a last tip: always install those security applications on a new fresh installed system without an internet connection, install them and after updating them - then, you can browse the Internet.
